Mindful Parenting [Podcast]

Parenting is one of the most beautiful and challenging experiences of my life. As parents, we often find ourselves caught between our own needs and the needs of our children. It can be overwhelming at times. But through mindfulness, we can create more presence, calm, and connection in our daily lives, ultimately bringing peace to ourselves and our families.

In a recent episode of The Deconstructed Woman podcast with Elisa Marie and Jojy, I shared how mindfulness has helped me navigate the ups and downs of parenting. If you’re a parent or caregiver looking to cultivate more presence and mindfulness in your daily life, I encourage you to listen to the episode. This episode is Part 2 of a two-part series on mindfulness, following the episode on How to use Meditation and Mindfulness in Daily Life. You can catch up on Part 1 here for a deeper dive into the basics of mindfulness before continuing with this one.

Mindfulness is pausing, being present at the moment on purpose without judgment. Mindful parenting is the effort to bring awareness, attention, and curiosity to your interactions with your children, which involves listening, reflecting, and choosing to respond in a way that can uplift both the parent and the child.

4 Key Takeaways from the Parenting & Mindfulness Podcast:

  • Mindfulness for Emotional Regulation: Mindfulness practices have been transformative for me in terms of managing my emotions. They’ve helped me reduce stress and react more thoughtfully to challenges rather than reacting impulsively.

  • Building Stronger Connections with Children: Mindful parenting allows us to be present and engaged, fostering deeper emotional connections and resilience in our kids. Using techniques such as:

    • a Mindful Bell - a bell when rung everyone stops and takes a few breaths

    • Mind in a Jar - a clear jar filled with water and glitter added that, when swirled, mimics an active, agitated, or busy mind, and when the water is not moving, it is a clear, calm mind.

    • Calm corner - a place where children can go to get away, take a break, and calm themselves

    • Pause and Breathe together with your kids

  • Simple, Practical Tools: I shared tools that anyone can incorporate into their day-to-day routines—like breathing and creating mindful moments—to help cultivate balance and awareness. And remembering self-care and self-compassion for yourself.

  • Staying Grounded in Stressful Moments: Life with children can be chaotic, but mindfulness helps us stay centered, even during the toughest moments.
