How to Use Meditation & Mindfulness in Your Daily Life [Podcast]

In our fast-paced world, it’s easy to lose sight of who we truly are. Between society's expectations, work, and personal commitments, our authentic selves can sometimes get buried under layers of stress and distraction. That’s why mindfulness is such a powerful tool—it helps us pause, reflect, and reconnect with our true essence.

Recently, I had the pleasure of joining Elisa Marie and Jojy on The Deconstructed Woman podcast to discuss mindfulness and its role in finding authenticity. It was a rich and meaningful conversation with practical insights on integrating mindfulness into daily life.

Key Takeaways from Our Conversation

  1. Mindfulness as a Path to Self-Discovery
Many of us go through life on autopilot, reacting to situations rather than consciously engaging with them. By practicing mindfulness, we create space to tune into our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, allowing us to understand ourselves on a deeper level.

  2. The Power of Presence
In today’s digital world, distractions are constant. Learning to be present in each moment—whether during a conversation, a walk in nature, or even washing the dishes—can transform how we experience life.

  3. Overcoming Common Mindfulness Misconceptions
Many people think mindfulness requires hours of meditation or a completely silent mind. In reality, mindfulness is simply about awareness—acknowledging thoughts and sensations without judgment and bringing attention to the present. It can take as little as 30 seconds to a minute.

  4. Simple Practices to Get Started
Whether it’s taking a few deep breaths before responding to an email, practicing gratitude in the morning, or setting aside five minutes for mindful reflection, small changes practiced daily can have a big impact over time. Some of these can include:

    1. Body scans can assess what you feel or sense in parts of your body as you scan from head to toe in the moment, such as pain, discomfort, heat, heaviness, or lightness.

    2. Pick one thing for the week to practice daily, such as being mindful when washing your hands. Pause. How does the water feel? What is the temperature? What does the soap smell like? What do you feel when you rub your hands together? Another could be mindful when making coffee.

By practicing mindfulness daily, when you encounter a difficult situation, you’ll notice your anxiety rising and remember to pause because you’ve done the work. Take a few breaths, sit with the discomfort, assess what your feeling and the physical sensations in your body, and let them pass without taking action or passing judgment. Just let them go.
